Over the past three years, Hong Kong has imposed one of the toughest pandemic measures in the world. Three millennial photographers in Hong Kong, Justin Wong & Natalie Lau & Mathew Lai, attempt to document living through Covid from a photographic perspective. The lockdowns have not slowed down their pursuit of art creation; it is the best time to rediscover and appreciate the beauty of Hong Kong.

About Justin Wong
Justin is a Hong Kong born Canadian freelance photographer. He bought his first camera during high-school days in order to satisfy his curiosity of the surroundings. Throughout the years, he has been capturing daily life and developing his creative style by transforming stills into movie-like scenes. His recent works attempt to bring out the awareness of street signs and life in this covid era. Photography is a way to express emotions and capture fleeting moments. “Our Lenses Under Covid” showcases unique and memorable moments in the City. He wishes his audience can find connection and imagination from his works.

About Natalie Lau
Natalie is a Hong Kong photographer with solid experience in photo shooting. Two years ago, she occasionally encountered night shooting on streets, buildings, and neon lights. She held her first “Glow In The Dark” solo photography exhibition last year and became the foreground of public attention! She was the champion of “Hong Kong Neon Light Competition” and Gold Reward of “Spring Festival Photography Contest”. She was honoured to receive an interview by Sony Hong Kong Limited and her works were quoted and reported by the media.

Her works mainly focus on street scenery. She uses her lightroom and photoshop technique to turn Hong Kong‘s ordinary scene, in particular, the dull city, narrow and criss-crossed streets, and busy business area into a different and glorious scene. Her works make us lower our busy steps, stay calm and scan through our surroundings.

About Mathew Lai
Mathew was born and raised in Hong Kong. He studied photography from Christian Service Kwun Tong Vocational Training Centre and graduated in 2009.

Mathew uses monochrome to express the vibrancy of Hong Kong, he believes that Black & White is most suited to reveal the intimacy and the raw fundamentals of people in their everyday life.

In November 2021, Mathew participated in an exhibition called "Hong Kong Street Photography Exhibition" at Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC). He was involved not only as a photographer but also as an organiser. A second exhibition will be held in 2023 in which Mathew will continue to be both an organiser and a participant to showcase his work.
